Are we going to see iFlash in the AppStore?
UPDATE: Bill Perry's "iPhone and Flash - The Facts"
Now I have done my level best to stay out of the Flash on iPhone discussion because frankly, even though it's a great device and will do a lot from the point of view of pushing innovation (which is very important), I don't spend a lot of time at night thinking about how to address a device that only has 10 million units in the world - not when Nokia sell that many FL enabled devices a month (give or take - you know what I mean).
Anyway, news has hit the wires that Shantanu (Adobe CEO) has told investors an iPhone specific port of the Flash player is being developed using the iPhone SDK, and would be available as a standalone player on the device.
If it's a standalone player, doesn't this miss the point of a poor web-browsing experience through the browser? I'm sure I'm thinking of too many issues here before seeing the final implementation of this version of the player - and this is why I've resisted commenting on this whole area before, because details have been only rumours that have no real foundation in fact. So why comment now? I don't know, slow news day perhaps?

Hi Dale,

Best,

Yes, the numbers speak for themselves at this point in time ...
However, it is also important to recognize that the demographic of folks that are buying this device (in the US and to some extent abroad) are very likely to consume mobile content ... especially given the ease at which Apple can make this possible ...
For example: think DoCoMo ... a dedicated button to get to iChannel? Easy. Quick. No brainer to get to info and content ... similiar story with Apple's "so-easy a child can use it" UI) ;)
Also ... the folks buying iPhone are the folks that have no trouble sideloading content via iTunes with other media (music, tv, movies). They have already been "trained". ;)
Now, I'm not saying all young folks are buying iPhones (and will therefore buy content through apps tore) ... but there will probably be a good number ... and with follow up devices as we have seen with iPod, I'm sure this will be growing market (I really have a hard time imagining Apple getting pummeled in the content business ... but it is possible, given the whole movie rental failure they had with 1st gen Apple TV).
