My first big speaking gig

Time for DRD to hit the speaking circuit ... I've been recently confirmed as a speaker at next year's Macromedia developers' conference in Sydney - MXDU 2005. It'll be very cool, and hopefully I won't make a fool of myself :) I'm doing a case study on a project we did, so there can't be too much I can do wrong there!?! I'm presonally just looking forward to having another little ribbon on my conference pass with "Speaker" printed on it ... with more ribbons comes much power ;) See you in Sydney in Feb'05 ... hit www.mxdu.com for more info.

Flash Mobile a slow reality?

We're working on some applications for mobile devices at the moment, and in particular one for the mobile phone using the Flash Lite 1.1 player. It's really cool work, especially for someone like myself who loves gadgets and stuff (if you're like that, check out http://www.flashenabled.com/) but is it REALLY an area that will take off in Australia?

We've seen the launch of iMode on Telstra here with a direct marketing campaign designed at getting people into a Telstra shop to see a demo (the site is written in Cold Fusion too!), because ultimately we don't fully appreciate the power of what is being rolled out here. I think maybe we'll just be too slow to appreciate it, and developers like us who are dying to create content (especially using Flash) are going to starve while they wait for consumers to catch up. I don't know, maybe I'm coming down on things before they've had a chance to get going ... I hope I'm wrong.

We'll be launching some more info on our mobile development work shortly, but read our company announcement for the low down on what's going on right now.

If only I could touch type

Typing is a bit of a weakness for me. I've developed this speedy little 5-6 finger action which gets me by, but as my journalist-trained wife continues to find out about me - I'm shockingly prone to typos. My comments in Company MD Models for Cover is ironic in that I talk about loving the nature of the web where you change mistakes instantly (and hence why I dislike the print medium), but the rant is full of typos. Oh well, whatever :)
